Dr Sandeep. Please give us a brief background about yourself.
I have been in the Health Care industry for the last 25 years. My core strengths have been operations, business development, cost control, implementation of quality systems, accreditation and management of hospitals and health care projects.
I have worked with health care leaders for 16 years – Sree Ganga Ram Hospital, Fortis Group and then Wockhardt Hospital. In association with Mckinsey, I worked on Purchase Supply Management and streamlining operating systems.
Subsequently I was Group Head for 10 hospitals with Metro Group and CEO for Dharamshila Cancer hospital. Now for the past 3 years I am with Apollo Hospitals as Regional Head for both Andhra and Telangana Region comprising of 10 Hospitals. Here I am handling close to 2,000 beds and am responsible for Profit and Loss.
What are the ingredients that go into leveraging people?
In today’s times if you wish to be a good leader you have to be a
mentor , you should be able to make people learn new things
thought leader, respected for your knowledge
The boss culture does not work. You have to work with people closely.
What practices does Apollo have to ensure that the above happens?
1) There is a lot of induction, orientation and on the job training. Apollo believes in making its people knowledge partners and hence invests a lot in training with a long-term perspective. People are human capital. They are a long term resource, rather business partners. Work therefore needs to be done towards their all round development.
2) Team building exercises are inherent to our culture which helps the organization as a whole. Our culture is one of support and handholding.
3) Freedom at work is a major factor in retaining key talent.
